Andrew Wright está disfrutando de su quinto año como subdirector en la escuela secundaria New Brighton. Nació y creció en Cape Cod, Massachusetts, donde desarrolló un amor por el entrenamiento de la vela y el estudio de la ciencia. Después de obtener su licenciatura en ciencias de la Universidad de Massachusetts en Amherst en 1998, decidió obtener una credencial de enseñanza en ciencias. Su primer puesto en ciencias de la escuela intermedia lo llevó a Santa Cruz en el 2000. Obtuvo su Maestría en Educación y Credenciales Administrativas de la Universidad Estatal de San José en 2005. El Sr. Wright continuó enseñando ciencias en la escuela secundaria durante once años antes de aceptar un puesto administrativo como Coordinador académico y subdirector. Se enorgullece de trabajar en la comunidad a la que ha llamado hogar durante casi dieciocho años. El Sr. Wright vive en los jardines de Santa Cruz con su esposa (un graduado de Soquel High) y tres hijos. Le encanta pasar tiempo con su familia y navegar cuando tiene la oportunidad.

Assistant Principal

Brittany Birchall is honored to be the assistant principal for New Brighton Middle School. As a lifelong learner, she has a passion for personal development, a strong belief in character education, and setting standards of excellence to increase student performance and outcomes for all learners. She believes in uniform expectations and a structure that promotes a safe and positive learning community, while building positive relationships with students. She is a firm believer in the collaborative process as a school leader, and she welcomes input from all valued members of the community.

Ms. Birchall has spent the last sixteen years working at the middle school level as a math and science teacher, in addition to upper elementary school. Her experience as an educator includes time spent as a curriculum coach for mathematics here in Santa Cruz County. She has been an administrator for summer school at the middle and elementary school levels working with diverse student populations. She has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, as well as her administrative credential from San Jose State University, including her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Fresno. She has prior experience participating in her school community as the activities director, student council advisor, newspaper creator and editor, the GATE Liaison, Math Department Chair, Data Team Lead, in addition to leading clubs, coaching the girls’ soccer team, including coaching softball at Santa Cruz High School and travel ball in Carmel Valley. She comes from a family of educators, including her late great uncle who was the former superintendent of Modesto City Schools for over twenty years who mentored her through her administrative credential and master’s degree program.

She is the founder and board member for the River Birchall Foundation and is a current board member for the Tim Brauch Foundation, which focuses on giving youth opportunities in skateboarding and the arts. She enjoys guiding students towards finding their connection in school through extracurricular opportunities in turn which will increase their aptitude for positive meaningful experiences and success.  She looks forward to working with students and their families to help them navigate towards an optimal experience, while here at New Brighton Middle School.
